How tall to ride at Walt Disney World

Every height-gated ride across the four parks, with its posted minimum — checked against Disney's official sources and cited, never guessed. The rides with no minimum are here too, and how Rider Switch works when someone can't ride.

Height × intensity

Height requirements don’t always tell the whole story about a ride’s intensity — there are rides with a higher height requirement that most kids handle just fine, and some with a lower one that can be extreme even for grown-ups. The chart below compares height requirement against estimated intensity for every height-gated ride across the four parks.

Too short for a ride? Use Rider Switch

Rider Switch (also called Rider Swap) lets one adult wait with a child who isn’t riding — whether they’re under the height minimum or just sitting it out — while the rest of the group rides. Then they trade places, and the adult who waited rides without going back through the full standby line.

  1. At the ride entrance, with your whole group there, tell a cast member you’d like Rider Switch.
  2. The first group rides while one adult stays back with the child.
  3. When they return, up to two people swap in through the Lightning Lane return — no second wait in the standby line.

It works at nearly every height-gated ride, including ones you’ve booked a Lightning Lane for (everyone riding still needs their own pass). Disney’s Rider Switch page has the current details.

Heights are checked once (or more) in line — measure before you line up, but the cast member’s measurement at the ride is the definitive one. Each ride shows its posted minimum against a kid’s current height.

Planning a trip? MerryGo maps every ride against your own kids' current heights — who clears what — and builds the rest of the plan around your whole group.
